Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of Book Xchange. By creating an account, you agree to them.
What Book Xchange is
Book Xchange is a platform that lets neighbors list books they're willing to lend and coordinate borrowing them from each other directly. We provide the app, the listings, and the messaging tools that connect you — we are not a party to any loan you arrange, and we don't take custody of, inspect, or guarantee the condition of any book.
Your account
- You must provide accurate information when creating an account and keep your login credentials secure.
- You're responsible for activity that happens under your account.
- You must be at least 13 years old to use Book Xchange.
- One account per person. Don't create an account for someone else without their permission.
Posting and borrowing books
- Only post books you actually own and have the right to lend.
- Describe the book's condition honestly.
- Arranging pickup, drop-off, and the safety of any in-person meeting is between you and the other user. Meet in public places when possible and use your own judgment.
- Book Xchange does not mediate disputes over lost, damaged, or unreturned books, though you can report a user if something goes wrong (see below).
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Post anything illegal, fraudulent, or misleading.
- Harass, threaten, or abuse other users.
- Use the app to sell books, run a business, or solicit unrelated commercial transactions.
- Attempt to access another user's account or interfere with the app's normal operation.
- Scrape, resell, or republish data from the app.
We may remove listings, messages, or accounts that violate these terms, based on our own review or reports filed by other users.
Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users
Book Xchange has no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. This includes content that is hateful, harassing, threatening, sexually explicit, violent, illegal, or fraudulent, and any behavior that targets or abuses other users. By agreeing to these terms you agree that content violating this rule will be removed and that the account responsible will be permanently removed from the app.
Reporting, blocking and moderation
- Filtering: listings (title, author, description, photos) and chat messages are automatically screened for objectionable content before they are posted.
- Flagging: you can report any listing, user, or chat message in the app (look for the ⚑ Report option).
- Blocking: you can block any user from their profile or from a chat. Blocking immediately removes that user's listings and conversations from your feed and prevents them from contacting you. Each block is also sent to our team for review.
- Action within 24 hours: our team reviews every report and block, and will act on objectionable content within 24 hours by removing the content and ejecting the user who provided it.
Content you post
You keep ownership of the photos, descriptions, and messages you post. By posting them, you give us a license to store, display, and transmit that content as needed to operate the app (for example, showing your book's photo to other users, or delivering your chat message to its recipient).
Account deletion
You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, listings, messages, and ratings. We may also suspend or terminate an account that violates these terms.
Disclaimers
Book Xchange is provided "as is." We don't guarantee the accuracy of listings, the reliability of other users, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. You use the app, and any book exchange you arrange through it, at your own risk.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Book Xchange and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app or any exchange arranged through it, including loss or damage to books.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
